02.17Swin Cash Coming to Seattle

The free agency period opens on Tuesday and Swin Cash will most likely be traded to the Seattle Storm in exchange for draft picks.
“I don’t want to be a bitter person. I don’t want to be mad at the trade and stuff,” Cash told the Free Press. “Are there some things I don’t like? Of course. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t. But at the end of the day I’m going to end up wherever God wants me to end up and that’s what I’ve been telling myself — whether it’s Detroit or Seattle.”
For Cash, it could mean reuniting with former UConn teammate Sue Bird but the end of a successful six-year career at Detroit.
Over the years there have been differences of opinion between Cash and Detroit Shock Coach, Bill Laimbeer and Cash was always one to express her thoughts. But Cash says there are no hard feelings.
“I’ve learned and I’ve matured more as a woman and spiritually through this whole process and I have no ill feelings toward Bill or the organization,” she said. “For me I’d just rather focus on the positive because that’s the person I am, and I feel like if you give that type of energy off, those things will come back to you.
But Has Cash Lost a Step?
Some say she has. Especially after her ACL injury during the 2004 Olympics. She went from a leading player for the Shock with 12.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and shooting 42.5% from the field, to just 5.7 points, playing only 21 games in 2005.
But if you have seen Cash play, you know she still has the fire. In 2006 she averaged 10.5 points and in 2007, 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Every year she is improving and is getting closer to her peak performance in 2004.
Seattle Will Be Happy to Have Her
Cash will be a welcome member of the Seattle Storm club. She has an outstanding resume with 2 NCAA championships and 2 WNBA championships (2003, and 2006). She will definitely help fill the seats.
And with the two UConn teammates playing together again there is bound to be some exciting basketball to watch.
